Let me begin by saying that I have been married for 38 years so I can personally attest to the practicality of what I teach about conflict resolution.

I was born and raised in Chicago. After graduating from college with degrees in education and psychology, I became a high school teacher in the Chicago public school system. What an education!...as much for me as for my students. It was as a high school teacher that I first began formulating my distinctive approach to conflict resolution.

I left high school teaching in 1979 and joined American Hospital Supply Corporation (AHSC). At AHSC, I developed and delivered training programs and provided coaching to leaders who were looking to enhance their impact, influence and overall leadership effectiveness. Additionally, I managed the leadership development function at two of AHSC’s divisions. Here I saw first hand that adults could often act just like children when it comes to resolving conflict! 

In 1984, I left the Corporate world and formed my own training company, Barkan Associates. In 2003, I expanded my business and cofounded Executive Resources Consulting Group.

Today, I am an associate of The Pivotal Factor (http://www.thepivotalfactor.com), an organization dedicated to helping teams and individuals achieve breakthrough results.
